MAYA MONUMENTS: Watercolours by Nigel Hughes.

Between 1982 and 1986, Nigel Hughes has painted 40 watercolours depicting a wide and representative range of classic and post-classic Maya architecture and monumental sculpture. The pictures are mainly 51 x 72 cm. but 4 are larger. Exact dimensions and titles below.

The work has been published as a book (MAYA MONUMENTS, Antique Collectors’ Club, 2000), the text of which gives an account of Maya culture and civilization, together with a collection of essays dealing with particular aspects.

The watercolours were shown at the Museo Nacional de Antropología in Mexico in 1987 (sponsored by KLM and arranged through the British Council and British Embassy), and at the New York Arts Club (sponsored by Aer Lingus). They are being exhibited this year at Canning House, 2 Belgrave Square, London SW1 (from 10 to 21 July).

The intention is to sell the paintings as a complete set (40 plus an original map), but if that does not happen they may be offered separately. They are framed, using conservation board and normal glass. Prices on application to the artist, Nigel Hughes, telephone and fax 0044 (0)1308 423947 or email (nrhughes@btinternet.com).

The Maya watercolour series comprises the following. A virtual gallery is available for images of a selection of the paintings. Details given are the name of the site, the monument and the dimensions of the watercolour in mm.
